Open House at Studio 55C, Home for Somatic Movement + Arts

Studio 55C, a new Home for Somatic Movement + Arts on the Lower East Side, is hosting an Open House this Sunday, April 8th from 2-5pm.

The Open House will include 15-minute sample classes in the Nia Technique, EyeCare Exercises, Moving for Life, Pranayama, and mini-bodywork/healing sessions. The art of Tasha Robbins will be on view and offered for sale, with proceeds benefiting Moving for Life to fund their free classes for seniors and cancer survivors.  Studio 55C also will provide light bites and refreshments.

Studio 55C is a conscious movement collective formed by three leaders in the field: Martha Eddy, Dana Davison and Kristin DeGroat. Classes and workshops educate students on how to move from deep within the body to increase awareness, self-regulation, and the ability to self-heal. As each student is encouraged to move fluidly in their own way, they experience a joy that goes beyond the average exercise experience.

Studio 55C (www.studio55c.org) is located at 55 Avenue C between 4th and 5th Streets and is wheelchair accessible. Classes are reasonably priced and deeply intelligent. All are welcome. Workshops are offered for a fee, and some partial scholarships are available.
We partner with Dance Parade and Ecological Cities.

Mission/Fact Sheet: Moving For Life & Studio 55C

Moving For Life DanceExercise for Health® is a science-based therapeutic movement program that enhances the overall health and well-being of older adults and people of all ages affected by cancer.

Moving for Life  (501c3 non-profit organizations) seeks to deepen the connection between mind and body and empowers participants with vital information to sustain wellness. Moving For Life DanceExercise programs have been shown to improve the quality of life for older adults and cancer patients by motivating good exercise habits and aiding in weight management.

Developed in 1999 as a volunteer initiative, Moving for Life incorporated as a tax-exempt non-profit in 2014 to provide greater access to this invaluable program for people from all walks of life.  The extended Moving for Life community - age 6 – 90 -  can be seen leading or participating in the warm-ups for the Avon, American Cancer Society, and Komen Race for the Cure walkathons, in the Dance Parade, and in classes throughout the city. MFL events welcome all!  Classes are available in Spanish, Russian, Chinese and Hebrew, all supported by a broad range of music.  Moving For Life also offers experiential workshops and lectures to local communities on an array of pain management and wellness topics.

We are delighted to now have a home in a wheelchair accessible storefront on Avenue C , partnering with 7 Loaves/GOH Productions, and to have opened Studio 55C which offers diverse somatic movement, dance, yoga &  fitness workshops and classes. The 46’ x 24’ studio can be rented.
